Husum Rarities of the Piano Festival 2015  

On 27 August Jonathan will be making his fifth appearance at this now must-see festival for piano music enthusiasts in Husum Castle,northern Germany, near the Danish border – and now in its 29th year.  This year Jonathan’s programme has a distinctly British feel; as well as revisiting Bach Transcriptions from his highly successful Hyperion CD, Jonathan will be giving an extremely rare complete performance of Constant Lambert's ballet 'Horoscopes' arranged for piano by the composer.

Jonathan and the Szymanowski Quartet in De Doelen Debut

Following their highly successful debut recording for Hyperion, which was BBC Music Magazine Chamber Choice in 2012, the group were invited to perform the Zarebski and Zelenski works on 21st April at Rotterdam’s celebrated De Doelen concert hall. They received a rapturous reception from the audience who, according to the Facebook report of the concert, were overheard commenting: 'lush, romantic music', 'such a good pianist', 'pianist and strings blended so well', 'intriguing', 'you can just sit back and submit to the luxurious sounds', 'so refreshing to discover something new'.

Jonathan to record Rozycki and Friedman Piano Quintets

Jonathan once again teams up with the ex BBC New Generation Award winning Szymanowski Quartet to record more Romantic Polish piano quintets, this time by Ludomir Rozycki and Ignaz Freidman.  International Record Review wrote of their first disc: “The pianism of Polish specialist Jonathan Plowright has an eloquence and poise which meshes with the strings in a master-class of responsive ensemble playing.”

Jonathan recently finished recording the Piano Concertos and Ballade by Rozycki, which will be released by Hyperion as part of their Romantic Piano Concerto series later in the year.
 

Friendly Freiburg

On 17th April Jonathan played to a packed-out concert hall at the Forum in Merzhausen, near Freiburg in south-western Germany. He received this wonderful review: “Hier spielt ein außergewöhnlicher Pianist! Ganz fein, behutsam, völlig uneitel musizierte der britische Pianist Jonathan Plowright im Forum Merzhausen und verzauberte sein Publikum. ” (Here we have an exceptional pianist! British pianist Jonathan Plowright’s performance at the Forum in Merzhausen was very fine, gentle and utterly unpretentious – it enchanted his audience....)
