ARTISTIC SERIES 'BRAHMS PLUS' for WIGMORE HALL 2018-2020

Jonathan continued his successful series with 'a striking piano recital' according to The Times, featuring Brahms and Schumann on Saturday 28 December of which the Seen and Heard International critic wrote:

His next two concerts in March and July were cancelled, but Jonathan features in the Wigmore Hall's 2020 Autumn Season programme to be streamed live online, on Thursday 22 October, when he will continue his Brahms Plus Series, with works by Brahms and Chopin.   For more details click here.

CONCERTS & WORLD PREMIERE RECORDING Poland 2020

After a summer of cancelled engagements, like all musicians, Jonathan is looking forward to getting back onto the concert stage and this Autumn he has a particularly exciting concert and recording project lined up in Poland with the Poznan Philharmonic under their resident conductor Lukasz Borowicz.

The project features the music of Michał Bergson, a 19th-century Polish composer of Jewish origin, born exactly two hundred years ago.   The Bergson family, including many eminent merchants and bankers, played a significant role in shaping the face of Warsaw for many generations.   Michał Bergson spent a large part of his career in Paris, he married the daughter of a family from Doncaster (where Jonathan himself was born!), and eventually lived in London.

The direct inspiration for the project was the discovery of Michał Bergson's original 1862 manuscript, Concerto Symphonique pour Piano avec Orchester, Op. 62 in a London second hand bookshop which was subsequently bought by the Poznań Philharmonic.  A CD of the Concerto, plus other pieces for orchestra, solo piano, clarinet and soprano will be recorded at the beginning of September.

A short film was made showing the preparation for recording the album with contributions by Łukasz Borowicz (in Polish) and Jonathan (in English):  https://bit.ly/31V4eQP

A short concert tour of Polish venues will follow in late September, and the project will culminate in the world recording premiere release in November and two celebratory concerts in Poznan on 13th and 14th November.

A few days later, on 20th November Jonathan will perform the Tansman Piano Concerto no.2 with the Polish Baltic Philharmonic Orchestra in Gdansk.
