NEW SOLO RECORDING for HYPERION

In late June 2018 Hyperion Records will release Jonathan's newest solo project, the piano works of the wonderful Czech composer Josef Suk.  This will be his first solo recording for Hyperion since the two commemorative Polish themed 'Homages' to Chopin and Paderewski, which garnered extensive national and international accolades, including the German Critics Choice Prize amongst many others.

Renowned for his musically intuitive and intelligent interpretations, Jonathan has a keen fascination with harmonic structures and this, coupled with his love of championing unjustly neglected repertoire, led him to recognise the innovative individuality of Suk's music. "I'm surprised that Suk's music is not more popular in the Czech Republic, it has been overshadowed by Dvorak and Janacek for too long which is a shame. It is highly characterful and emotive music."  For this volume, Jonathan has chosen a group of pieces that are not in chronogical order but work well together as a programme, from languid moods to passionate emotions.  (Keen-eared listeners will spot the use of the same melody in the final Summer Impression Evening Mood as that of the first of the Op.7 Pieces Song of Love, which follows it on the CD. )

PADEREWSKI CONCERTO/STOJOWSKI for WARNER CLASSICS
