Jonathan to debut in The Netherlands at De Doelen Hall

On 21 April Jonathan will be making his debut appearance at De Doelen in Rotterdam, one of the premiere concert halls in Holland, when he performs Zelenski and Zarebski with the Szymanowski Quartet.  The group’s Hyperion CD recording of this repertoire was BBC Music Magazine Chamber Choice when it was released in 2012.  International Record Review wrote of the disc:

“The pianism of Polish specialist Jonathan Plowright has an eloquence and poise which meshes with the strings in a master-class of responsive ensemble playing.”

Jonathan’s latest Brahms CD continues to excite

Since it’s release in November 2014, Jonathan’s Brahms Vol.2 CD on BIS Records is continuing to stun the critics, with 5* reviews in all the major media.  Most recently Andrew Clements wrote in The Guardian:

"From the first few bars of its opening movement, it’s clear that Plowright has got a perfect sense of the scale and the range of this tricky early work. As well as its technical brilliance, the sense of the boundless invention of the young Brahms worrying away at the constraints of sonata form is vividly present. But the brief moments of introspection are given full weight, too, while the hugely ambitious finale, which can so easily lose its way, is perfectly controlled… This series should turn out to be worth following very closely." 5*

Jonathan impresses the critics in Bremen

Playing Brahms to a packed out Sendesaal for the opening recital of Radio Bremen’s 25th Anniversary Series “on Black & White Keys” in early January, Jonathan received this review:

“With an expansive palette of piano playing, now fading away into pianissimo, now rising to a sensitively articulated mezzoforte,  Plowright achieved exactly this level of expression in a very beautiful way, rich in colour.  The homely lyricism of the A-major Intermezzo (op. 118 nr. 2) was particularly fine”.

Rare Romantic Concerto in Warsaw for Valentines’ Day

Described as "brilliant and superb" by Ruch Muzyczny, Jonathan’s performances of Ludomir Rozyki’s ultra-romantic Piano Concerto No.1 with the Warsaw Philharmonic were heard by a total 2,000 people in Warsaw over the Valentine’s Day weekend.  "Jonathan Plowright, the most Polish among foreign pianists, simply an ambassador of our music, was the centre and core of the evening" according to Ruch Muzyczny.  Watch out for his CD release on Hyperion Records later in the year……

.... and whilst in Warsaw Jonathan also found time to catch up with an old ‘friend’!
